TRAINEE MANAGER
www.aytonfarm.com.au
Boutique Family Farm near Rathdowney Qld needs a trainee manager to help us expand.
We are seeking a trainee to work with us on our farm as we create and develop our enterprise following in the style of Joel Salatin / Polyface Farms regenerative and holistic farming processes. You will have the opportunity to learn both the physical farming skills and the business/financial skills needed to run an "enterprise stacking" farm incorporating managed grazing/cell grazing. We have done 3 days training with Joel in Australia 3 and we are 16 months into the establishment of the “enterprise stacking” system.
Due to increasing business, we are looking to add a trainee to our team of backpackers or Helpx volunteers-all accommodated on the farm. This position has longer-term career prospects as you could develop into the manager of our farm, or go on to participate on some "share-farm" or "herd-share" basis that gives you your own "fiefdom" as Joel Salatin advocates.
We currently combine beef cattle, laying hens in a caravan, broiler chickens, a Lucas Portable Sawmill, and very small vegetable garden which we want to expand. We have a development path planned with plenty of variety available including things such as getting a micro-abattoir licensed for processing our own chickens, re-certifying our commercial kitchen (bought from the mining industry in a 40' shipping container, and with a 40'/12 metre x 27'/8 metre verandah constructed beside it, which could be an alfresco restaurant), a desire to keep bees and other plans.
We practice Low Stress Stock Handling and our animals are ethically and humanely treated.
We plan to build sufficient economic activity so the farm will support its own small community of 4-8 team members and interact with and draw help from the local community. By our example we hope to make a difference to farming and regenerative land management practices in this region, and our chickens are already organic though not certified.
We want to play a part in educating the public about good quality organic food and how it is produced, including the transparency of farm walks, open days, farm shops held on the verandah beside the commercial kitchen and participating vigorously in the Scenic Rim's "Eat Local Week" activities (we are booked in for 5 elements of participation this year).
We are located in the Scenic Rim, 1.5 hours south of Brisbane, and 1.5 hours inland from the Gold Coast. Our property of 385 acres is located right by Burnett Creek, looking out over Mount Maroon and Mount Barney
No experience is required.
You will need: a positive attitude, keenness to learn, alertness and initiative and a good sense of humour. You must be compatible with our core values: Integrity, Innovation, Commitment/ Passion, Quality, Substance over form.
We will provide you with food, accommodation and training and starting remuneration will depend on your experience and be reviewed in future with reference to performance.
