Ayton Farm is delighted to announce that commencing 31st of January 2017 we will have fresh pastured chicken for sale each week. We are excited to offer this service to our customers. We will be delivering to restaurants each Tuesday and whole chickens will be available for collection at Chelmer each Thursday and Friday. You can place your order on our website order form or call Kathy on 0414 821 700. Orders would need to be in by Friday afternoon for delivery the following week. Ayton Farm Pastured Produce is now incorporating Peachester chicken farm. This is enabling us to grow our business with the result that we now have the capability to process chickens each week.
November 2007
In November 2007, we purchased our 385 acre Ayton Farm - with cute cottage-suitable for weekends only and just enough space for friends to visit one at a time - near Rathdowney in the Scenic Rim in South East Queensland, for the boy from the bush to return to his dream life and produce his own food.
The farm had decaying fences, no animals - except wallabies, hares and bandicoots - and a 2-wheel drive tractor with no front end loader and poor brakes.
We were gifted Peter Andrews’ book Back from The Brink as a “farm warming” present and that, as they say, is where it all began.
We consulted Peter on our farm on two occasions and we, in turn, made an impulsive - and life changing – trip with him to the Hunter valley to see his theories in practice.
On a steep learning curve, we participated in workshops and courses on farming topics and ways to improve our pasture. Read more...
The result of our studies has led to us implementing low stress stock handling techniques for our cattle and we have converted our paddocks to cell/ managed grazing with long rest periods in between to regenerate our soil and pasture and improve bio-diversity.
Joel Salatin has inspired us to enterprise stack - where complementary species of livestock are raised in a (mutually) symbiotic relationship to heal the soil and pastures.
We treat our animals with homoeopathics when needed.
We are constantly learning about our farm and animals, and evolving as we gain more knowledge. We are keen to use innovative techniques and incorporate new ideas while re-introducing some of the proven old-time farming principles and retaining the knowledge from experienced people.
Fast forward to 2015
We moved to Ayton Farm full time in June 2015.
Today we produce "beyond organic":
